The year 2003 marked the 150th anniversary of the
incorporation of the Town Of Barrie. There's certainly a
lot to celebrate! In 1853, the population of what we now
call Barrie was a modest 800. By 2021, the population of
Greater Barrie and Area is predicted to explode to 350,000
-- easy to believe, when you consider the enormous lifestyle
appeal of this popular area. Currently home to over 110,000,
the City of Barrie embraces an idyllic combination of
cosmopolitan urban amenities, a friendly small town
atmosphere - and year-round resort style living.
Located
in the heart of the Georgian Lakelands tourist area on
breathtaking Kempenfelt Bay, Barrie is graced with
spectacular natural surroundings. The City offers swimmable
beaches, challenging ski hills and over 90 parks that
provide opportunities for biking, inline skating and trail
walking. Families here appreciate cultural attractions such
as the renowned Gryphon Theatre, the MacLaren Art Centre,
and Ontario's premier summer events facility, Molson Park,
plus the Barrie Molson Centre, a 4,200 seat multi-purpose
entertainment facility.
Does
it get any better than this? Judging by population
predictions and the fact that the amount of building going
on in Barrie rivals the awesome levels of the 1980s, more
and more families are answering that question, "No." The
neighbouring towns of Innisfil and Wasaga Beach, which are
considered part of the Greater Barrie Area, are also
experiencing a building boom.
